Happy Saturday Fuquay-Varina! Let’s dive into this week’s top stories:
Congratulations Coach Clarke on 400 wins at Fuquay-Varina High School!
Congratulations to Coach Deborah Clarke on her 400th Career Win as a Varsity Softball Coach. Click here to view her numerous accomplishments as a Coach. She has coached the Bengals for over two decades and is beloved by her current and former players.
Here are some words of thanks from Coach Clarke’s former players:
“Coach Clarke helped provide a community of some of my closest friends and now family. The friendships caused by Coach Clarke became a safe environment for me to confide in them. The Bengals program helped me grow as a person and Coach Clarke’s teachings helped me become confident, caring, strong, and passionate in every aspect of my life.” – Lu, Class of 2019
“Coach Clarke is one of the best coaches i’ve ever had in the 15 years I have been playing softball. She was always there to support me and did an amazing job coaching and helping me be the best player I could be. I always trusted her and knew she had my best interest at heart. She was always confident in me even when I wasn’t in myself.” – Dara Orr, Class of 2019
“In my four years as a Bengal softball player, Coach Clarke has taught me so many things on and off the field. She taught me how to work better with others, to win with dignity and to loose with grace. Her and her family have made a huge impact on my life and I will always remember all the time and extra hours she put into making me a better person not just a better player.” – Michele, Class of 2021

Fuquay-Varina Literature News
Exploring the Great Outdoors – Nancy Bell Kimsey, a Fuquay-Varina author and the 2021 recipient of the Fuquay-Varina Arts Council scholarship to the Carolina Book and Writer Conference launched her book, Grace on a Rambling Road: Devotions for RV Travelers on May 6th. The book is a collection of devotional meditations that link the Scriptures with vignettes about the camping experience, uplifting life applications, and prayers.
Advocating for Mental Health
“My name is Isaac Joseph. I was born and raised in Fuquay-Varina. I recently wrote and published “My Brain is Strong Too!” advocating for and educating children’s mental health care.
1 in 6 U.S. children aged 2–8 years have a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder, others often go unseen or diagnosed. “My Brain is Strong Too!” tells the story of Tommy, a young boy struggling with major depressive disorder, and his discovery, treatment, and journey forward. Tommy’s therapist, Ms. Cynthia, teaches Tommy and his mom positive affirmations, coping skills, and meal plans to prevent adolescent eating disorders. This resource is recommended for elementary-aged children and parents alike.
My book is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and most recently in the Wake County Libraries! This month is Mental Health Awareness month, so 50% of all my proceeds will support NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). More about NAMI at nami.org!”
Operation Nahyelle is located at 800 S. Main Street. Melonie Lanier, the Community Director at the Kraft Family YMCA, is a graduate of Fuquay High School. She currently oversees day to day operations of 3 Elementary Schools in Fuquay, Willow Springs Elem and Camp High Hopes.
At Operation Nahyelle, we offer food, clothing, diapers, and toiletries. Our first food distribution was May 8th and we served 150 families! It doesn’t stop there, we want to do more like help with rental assistance, water bills, light bills and start a teen program. Every dime that’s donated to Operation Nahyelle goes right back into the community.
Since Operation Nahyelle Inc. is a new nonprofit and currently in the process of obtaining the 501(c)3 federal tax-exempt status, we are in need of monetary donations to fund overhead costs.
